Pep Guardiola names 'priority' target to replace 'Man City goalkeeper Ederson' as part of summer shake-up
Manchester City are planning a squad overhaul this summer, with Ederson's replacement high on their agenda.
The 2024/25 season has been a disappointing one for City, as they sit in fourth place in the Premier League, trailing leaders Liverpool by 20 points after 26 matches. Defending their Premier League title looks unlikely, with the team already eliminated from both the Carabao Cup and the Champions League.

In light of this underperformance, City’s management and manager Pep Guardiola are focusing on rebuilding the squad for the 2025/26 season. This process began in the January transfer window, when City invested heavily in new players, including Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis, and Abdukodir Khusanov.

Guardiola is now reportedly turning his attention to the goalkeeper position. Ederson, at 31 years old, has struggled to maintain his usual high standards this season, leading to questions about his future. To address this, City are eyeing Portugal's Diogo Costa, currently at FC Porto, as Ederson’s potential successor. Initial talks to secure Costa have already begun, according to Footmercato.
Following a 2-0 home defeat to Liverpool last weekend, City will look to bounce back when they face Tottenham Hotspur in an upcoming away fixture.
