‎Liverpool close to €150m Florian Wirtz deal as Bayern Munich pull out of transfer race

‎Liverpool FC appear to have surged ahead in the race to sign German midfield sensation Florian Wirtz, with reports suggesting the Bayer Leverkusen star is “one step away” from sealing a blockbuster €150 million move to Anfield.

‎According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri and corroborated by The Athletic, Wirtz has formally informed Bayern Munich that he will not be joining the Bavarian giants—despite months of aggressive pursuit from the Bundesliga champions. Bayern had reportedly been preparing a staggering €250 million package, but the 22-year-old has opted to pursue a Premier League challenge under new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot.
‎Wirtz, who netted 16 goals and provided 15 assists across 45 appearances this season, is considered one of Europe’s most complete attacking midfielders. His creative vision, goal-scoring ability, and tactical intelligence have drawn comparisons to legends such as Mesut Özil and Kai Havertz, whom Wirtz succeeded at Leverkusen.
‎Manchester City and Real Madrid were also heavily linked with the German international. However, City have cooled their interest, while Madrid are believed to be prioritizing other targets. This has left Liverpool in pole position, with Wirtz already scouting properties in northwest England and touring Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre.
‎The Merseyside club must now negotiate a final transfer fee with Bayer Leverkusen, who are holding firm on their €150 million valuation. While this would shatter Liverpool’s transfer record, insiders say the club views Wirtz as a generational talent capable of transforming their midfield.
‎Arne Slot, who takes over managerial duties from Jürgen Klopp, is believed to be an admirer of Wirtz’s playmaking style and sees the German as central to his plans for revitalizing Liverpool’s attacking identity.
‎A potential agreement would not only signal Liverpool’s transfer ambition but also reinforce the Premier League’s appeal to Europe’s elite young talent. Should the deal go through, it would represent one of the most significant signings of the summer window.
‎As talks progress, Liverpool supporters will be watching closely—hoping the red shirt will soon belong to one of Germany’s brightest stars.
