According to reports from The Athletic, Chelsea turned to Buonanotte as an alternative option after Simons secured a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. The 19-year-old Argentine was initially on the verge of joining Leeds United, with a flight booked for his medical, but he did not board the plane. Borussia Dortmund also expressed interest, but Chelsea are now positioned to secure his signature.
Buonanotte spent last season on loan at Leicester City, where he made a notable impact with six goals and three assists across all competitions. His performances earned further recognition at international level, with the midfielder earning two caps for Argentina.
Since joining Brighton, Buonanotte has made 50 appearances, contributing seven goal involvements. The structure of Chelsea’s loan deal is still under discussion, and it remains unclear whether an option to buy will be included.
The west London club is working against the clock to finalize paperwork before the transfer window closes, as they look to strengthen their midfield with Buonanotte’s creativity and versatility.
