Andre Onana Agrees Loan Move to Trabzonspor as Manchester United Exit Nears
Andre Onana has agreed to join Trabzonspor on loan, bringing his turbulent Manchester United career to a pause. The Cameroonian goalkeeper will move to the Turkish Super Lig after a difficult spell at Old Trafford.
Reports confirm that Trabzonspor will cover Onana’s full wages and provide him with the opportunity to earn bonuses, potentially allowing the 28-year-old to nearly double his Manchester United salary. The arrangement does not include a loan fee or an option to buy, keeping the focus on his short-term stay in Turkey.

Onana’s arrival at Manchester United in 2023 from Inter Milan for £48 million ($62m) came with high expectations. However, costly mistakes in goal led to him losing his starting position and eventually falling out of Ruben Amorim’s plans. The lack of permanent offers forced a loan deal as his best opportunity to find playing time and rebuild confidence.
His final appearances for United included a difficult Carabao Cup night against League Two side Grimsby Town, where he was blamed for both goals in a shocking defeat. Grimsby then converted 12 of 13 penalties past Onana in a shootout victory that added further pressure on the goalkeeper’s position.
Manchester United have since moved forward with Senne Lammens as their new first-choice goalkeeper. Signed from Royal Antwerp for £18m (€21m/$24.5m) on deadline day, the 23-year-old Belgian will look to secure the role ahead of Altay Bayindir, who also struggled in limited appearances.
