‎Chelsea's move for Jamie Gittens OFF as Borussia Dortmund talks collapse before summer deadline

‎Chelsea's hopes of landing Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens have been dashed after negotiations between the two clubs collapsed ahead of this summer's first transfer deadline.

‎According to reports from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, the Blues made a final push to complete the high-profile signing before Tuesday’s registration deadline for the FIFA Club World Cup. However, Borussia Dortmund rejected Chelsea's €55 million (£46.6 million) offer, citing that the bid fell short of their valuation for the talented 20-year-old.
‎Gittens has emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s brightest prospects after a breakout 2024/25 campaign in which he registered 12 goals and 3 assists across 48 appearances. With three years remaining on his current Dortmund contract, the German club has no immediate financial or strategic need to part ways with the English winger.
‎Chelsea scouts were impressed by Gittens’ pace, technical ability, and attacking output. The club viewed him as a priority signing to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s wide options ahead of the Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia. However, with talks stalling and the deadline passing, the deal will now have to wait until the second transfer window later this summer.
‎Despite the setback, Chelsea have been active in the market, successfully finalising deals for Liam Delap from Ipswich Town and Mamadou Sarr from RC Strasbourg. Both players are registered and available for selection as the Blues prepare to open their Club World Cup campaign against Major League Soccer champions LAFC next Monday.
‎Chelsea may revisit their interest in Gittens after the tournament, but for now, the west London side must regroup and press on with their current squad as they chase international silverware.
